FJÄLLNÄS CASTLE

The Fjallnas Castle is an outstanding building located on the outskirts of Gällivare, on a gentle hill overlooking the city. The city of Gällivare is situated in Norrbotten, the northernmost tip of Sweden, certainly one of Europe’s last wildernesses.

The landscape is beautiful and in winter the sky is often brightened by the northern lights. In Gällivare and the surrounding area it is possible to practice all kind of winter sports, from the classic ones such as alpine and cross country skiing, to the most specialized and adventurous ones such as dog sledging, snowmobile safaris and so on.

The Fjallnas Castle was built in 1890 by a Swedish gentlemen, Mr. Karl Otto Bergman, owner of some iron ore mines in the Region.  It is the biggest wooden Castle in the North of Sweden and it is considered a national monument. Its shape, in particular the two side towers, gives the impression of a fairy tale castle, especially in its winter version, from November to April, when a soft layer of snow covers the surrounding park creating a magical atmosphere.

The Castle, after a very careful and high level refurbishment, is now a Tourist Resort with seven luxury apartments and a gourmet restaurant; all this without altering the original structures of the Castle which was honoured by the presence of the King of Sweden in 1894.

Fjallnas castle is open for conferences, weddings and other events.
